Manchester United are facing up to having to sell wantaway star Cristiano Ronaldo, The Sun report.

BBC Sport report Ronaldo is keen to leave and has not returned for pre-season training, citing a family issue. A report from Sky Sports says he won’t be flying out on tour with the squad.

The club with the biggest interest is Chelsea, whose new owners want to make a splash, The Guardian report.

Selling Ronaldo to another Premier League team seems unthinkable, yet in every crisis, there is an opportunity.

Four Chelsea players Manchester United should demand

Selling Ronaldo to United would strengthen a competitor and weaken United. So the club should try and redress this one-sided deal by getting a player or two in part-exchange.

There are four standout options who United should demand as part of negotiations, who could solve a few problems at Old Trafford.

Ngolo Kante: Kante wears Chelsea’s number 7 shirt, so the Blues could solve a problem by offloading him to Manchester United as part of the deal.

The Guardian reported a month ago that Erik ten Hag was considering a move for the French midfielder, who at 31, would be a short-term fix for United’s midfield.

Kante’s quality is proven, the only question is over his fitness. He started only 21 Premier League games last season.

Timo Werner: There’s a prolific goalscorer in Timo Werner somewhere, and Erik ten Hag could be the manager to drag it out of him.

Werner’s prospects would be hurt by Ronaldo’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, and United could demand he be included as part of the deal, and end the German’s mixed spell in West London.

The 26-year-old has only scored 23 goals for Chelsea, after netting 93 times for RB Leipzig. A fresh start would do him good.

Hakim Ziyech: Erik ten Hag worked with Hakim Ziyech at Ajax to great effect and a move for the Moroccan could be a shrewd deal.

Ziyech could slot into United’s right-wing role and Chelsea are open to letting him leave, with The Mail reporting AC Milan are keen.

Armando Broja: Young striker Broja impressed on loan at Southampton last season, causing United’s defence problems in the clash at Old Trafford.

Broja’s opportunities would be limited by Ronaldo, and United should push to sign the 20-year-old Albanian as part of a deal.

The forward is strong on the ball, has an eye for goal, and gained vital top flight experience last season. Erik ten Hag could turn him into a superstar.
