Cristiano Ronaldo has posted a message on Instagram ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Red Devils welcome the Seagulls to Old Trafford on Sunday in what will be Erik ten Hag’s first competitive game in charge of the club.

Ronaldo’s last Premier League appearance for the twenty-time league champions was the 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Graham Potter’s Brighton at the Amex Stadium in May.

With interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the helm, the Reds simply rolled over and showed no fight against the Seagulls.

The 37-year-old was pictured in training with the rest of his United teammates ahead of Sunday’s curtain-raiser.

United’s number seven isn’t likely to start the game which kicks off at 2pm considering he’s only played 45 minutes of pre-season football which came on Sunday against Rayo Vallecano.

Anthony Martial, who scored three goals during pre-season, is expected to lead the line, but with the Premier League re-introducing the rule of being able to make up to five substitutes, Ronaldo could feature off the bench.

Ronaldo, who was last season’s top scorer with 24 goals across all competitions, is still intent on joining a Champions League before the summer transfer window shuts and that job is tasked with his agent Jorge Mendes.

However, after leaving Old Trafford early against Vallecano having been replaced at half-time by United’s goalscorer Amad Diallo, the former Ajax boss called out the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s conduct in public.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Viaplay, reported by AD.nl, Ten Hag said: “I certainly don’t condone this. This is unacceptable. For everyone.

“We are a team and you have to stay until the end.”

But ahead of the new Premier League season, Ronaldo has indicated that he’s slowing building up his fitness with a post on his Instagram account.
