Cristiano Ronaldo says Manchester United can win trophies under new incoming manager Erik ten Hag next season.

In an interview with the club website, Ronaldo broke his silence on the appointment of the Dutchman, who is the man entrusted with taking United back to the top.

While the likes of Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand have said that United should write off the prospect of winning silverware in the opening part of his reign, Ronaldo says he has confidence that we can clinch trophies next term.

And he has also seemed to commit his future to the club for next season, with chatter persisting throughout the year on a potential exit with United finishing outside the Champions League spots.

“What I know about him is he did a fantastic job for Ajax, that he’s an experienced coach,” said Ronaldo.

“But we need to give him time. Things need to change the way he wants.

“I hope we have success, of course, because, if you have success, all of Manchester is going to have success as well. I wish him the best.

“We are happy and excited, not only as players, but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let’s believe that, next year, we are going to win trophies.”

The most encouraging thing here is that Ronaldo is suggesting he will stick around to try and win trophies at United next season.

United will bring in at least one new forward but that has to be done to take the burden off the Portugal superstar.

It will be interesting to see how Ronaldo and ten Hag work together in terms of the philosophy the Dutchman wants to use.

If they could win a trophy together next season, that would be a welcome bonus, with top four the main aim in his maiden campaign.
