Cristiano Ronaldo praised by Varane and Evra after hat-trick
Cristiano Ronaldo is now FIFA’s leading all-time goalscorer with 807 goals after his hat-trick against Tottenham.
His treble took Manchester United into the top four on a stunning night for the Portuguese superstar.
There has been plenty of talk about Ronaldo being a problem for United and his former Red Devils teammate Patrice Evra made a joke of that on Instagram after the game.
It was a similar point to the one made by Rio Ferdinand when Ronaldo smashed in the opening goal of the game from long range.
Evra’s fellow Frenchman Raphael Varane was also reintroduced to the side after missing last weekend’s Manchester derby by Ralf Rangnick.
He knows what Ronaldo is capable as much as anyone, having played with him at Real Madrid as well and hailed the ‘unstoppable’ Portuguese forward.
Marcus Rashford was another player brought back into the fold but he endured a low-key night before being the first United player replaced around 66 minutes.
He sent a simple message to Ronaldo on his record-breaking night and Rashford may need to draw on some of Ronaldo’s mental resilience and spirit to come back from a period where he is being criticised from all angles.
