Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates winning Premier League Player of the Month

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player in the 2021/22 season to win the Premier League Player of the Month award twice.

Ronaldo had previously won the award in September, his first month back at the club. He did this after scoring three league goals.

In the recent month of April, Ronaldo scored five times to win the award, including netting his first free-trick for United since rejoining.

This is the sixth career Premier League Player of the Month Award won by Ronaldo, more than any Manchester United player.

Only Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero have won more (7), which is remarkable considering Ronaldo spent his peak years at Real Madrid, and then three more seasons at Juventus.

Ronaldo says the honour still means a lot to him, and he is as hungry as ever for for ‘victory and achievements’.

With United starved of success lately, struggling for wins, Ronaldo’s recent accolade is all the more impressive, having lifted his own personal numbers to 24 goals for the season.

At 37-years-old, Ronaldo has shown he is still a force to be reckoned with if he is provided with service, and he can still play a big role next season providing he stays.

Former teammate Rio Ferdinand this week advised Ronaldo to adjust his mindset and become less focused on success, and consider more on what he can offer in a leadership role at the club.

Ronaldo may well attempt to do both, he is unlikely to change his determined and unrelenting attitude towards winning, and this season of troubles on the pitch for United will make him even more determined to turn it around next season.

The forward struggled for goals at the start of 2022, and has bounced back stronger, leading to his recent award. He is clearly not done yet.
