Under-21 teammates hail ‘joke’ Shola Shoretire after hat-trick of assists

Manchester United’s under-21 side came from behind to claim a 3-3 draw with Brighton on Saturday.

Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo scored twice, with defender Bjorn Hardley netting a late header.

All three goals had one element in common… they were all assisted by Shola Shoretire.

Shoretire posted on social media after the match and was showered with praise by his under-21 colleagues.

Defender Rhys Bennett hailed him as a ‘joke’, with striker Joe Hugill simply posting a crown emoji to show his admiration.

The draw was frustrating as it means United’s under-21 side are still without a win in the league this season. The team do have two victories in the EFL Trophy.

Shoretire is now beginning to hit form, scoring the previous week in a defeat to Blackburn, and now delivering this three assist display.

These assists were Shoretire’s first of the season. If he repeats this, then United should start to put some wins together.

The young midfielder is still only 18, and could secure a loan move in January if he performs well.

Shoretire made his first team debut for United at 16, becoming one of the club’s youngest ever players.
