Manchester United’s under-18 side thrashed Derby County 5-2 at the weekend at Carrington to return to winning ways.

The under-18s had been beaten 4-0 the previous week by Nottingham Forest, their first league defeat in 2023.

The young side won 5-2 at the weekend with striker Victor Musa scoring twice, to take his tally to six goals in the last five games.

Ethan Williams, James Scanlon and James Nolan were also on the scoresheet, with Nolan’s goal the pick of the bunch from the edge of the box.

Young forward Sekou Kaba also provided an assist, having made his debut just a week earlier.

Ethan Williams’ strike took him to seven goals for the season, with only Manni Norkett (10) netting more at under-18s level.

Nehemiah Oriola makes debut

There was a notable debut at under-18s level for Nehemiah Oriola (above) who came off the substitute’s bench with 20 minutes to go.

Oriola signed for Manchester United from West Ham back in 2020 just after he turned 13. He posed with Sir Alex Ferguson at Carrington after making the move.

Now 15, the young playmaker’s development appears to be on track, making his under-18s debut already.

Eligible to play international youth football for either England or Nigeria, Oriola is going to be a player to continue to keep an eye on as he progresses.

Manchester United have been pushing younger players up to the under-18s in recent weeks, with Amir Ibragimov, Jayce Fitzgerald and Shea Lacey among the under-16s who have made their debuts this season.
