Last 16 success

United’s under-17s took on LA Galaxy in the last 16 in a match which kicked off a midnight UK time.

After taking the lead through midfielder Adam Berry, LA Galaxy equalised, before forward Ethan Wheatley restored United’s lead before half-time.

LA Galaxy equalised in the second half and neither side could find the winner, with the score ending 2-2.

The game went to penalties, and this time, United came out on top, with defender Louis Jackson scoring the winning spot-kick, and goalkeeper Tom Wooster was the hero.

The victory puts United into the quarter-finals where United will face Argentine side River Plate.

Under-15s bow out

United’s under-15s were knocked out at the same stage, losing 2-1 to MLS side Portland Timbers.

The under-15s had won two and drawn one of their opening matches to win the group to reach the last 16.

Elsewhere, United’s under-12s were in action at the Mediterranean International Cup, with Cristiano Ronaldo Jr scoring in a 5-0 victory.
