Manchester United’s under-17s made it two wins from two in the Adidas Generation Cup 2022 in Dallas.

United currently have two youth teams in America, the under-17s and under-15s, competing in two 40-team tournaments.

After beating Orlando City 2-0 to kick off the tournament, United’s young guns followed this up with a 3-0 victory over Chicago Fire.

Ethan Williams scored twice in the win. He is an attacking midfielder Manchester United signed from Rochdale in 2019.

James Scanlon scored one of United’s goals. He was one of three players Manchester United signed from Derby County a year ago, along with Malachi Sharpe and Sekou Kaba.

Williams and Scanlon are part of the under-16s and could possibly be involved with United’s under-18s next season.

FA Youth Cup finalist Kobbie Mainoo scored in United’s first game along with James Nolan. Mainoo, still 16, has been captaining the young side.

Despite two opening wins, Manchester United’s progress to the next stage is not yet guaranteed, with only the group winners going through.

United face Minnesota United next, who also have two wins. A draw would be enough for Manchester United due to a superior goal difference, yet to concede a goal.

The tournament is largely comprised of MLS sides with a handful of foreign sides, including Celtic and River Plate.

United’s under-15s currently are second in their group after a win and a draw, and need a victory against Colombus Crew in the final game to top the group.
