Manchester United made a statement with a FA Youth Cup win over Crystal Palace last month, with Maxi Oyedele among the stars.

2023 could be a big year for Oyedele as he looks to win his second successive FA Youth Cup, this time with an even bigger role.

Who is Maxi Oyedele?

Maxi Oyedele made his debut for Manchester United’s under-18 side back in 2021 when he was just 16, as a starter against Derby County.

Oyedele is a central midfielder who has a bit of everything to his game, strong defensively while being keen to get into the final third and make an impact.

Last season he scored four goals for the under-18 side, including one in the FA Youth Cup third round win over Rochdale, netting from the edge of the box, and also featured in the UEFA Youth League.

Last season he was used as a back-up to Kobbie Mainoo, who has since stepped up to the 21s, but he still had a valuable role in the FA Youth Cup win, starting once and featuring in every single game including the final.

Oyedele scored in United’s third round win this season, netting the opener at Selhurst Park. This was his second goal of the season, in addition to two assists.

He is thriving in a more prominent role in the under-18s, and he was also given his under-21 debut earlier this season as a substitute. More chances are likely in 2023.

He signed his first professional contract in summer 2021, and has trained with Manchester United’s first team squad, before also travelling on Erik ten Hag’s winter training camp in Spain.

Maxi Oyedele nationality

Maxi Oyedele is eligible to play for three countries, England, Nigeria, and Poland. Early in 2021 he committed his future to Poland, who he qualifies for through his mother.

Oyedele made his Poland under-18s debut last May, and has since made five appearances for Poland’s under-19s squad.
