Manchester United youngster Jack Fletcher stood out in the under-18s FA Youth Cup third round victory against Derby County.

Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup campaign for 2023/24 is off to a positive start, with the team winning 1-0 against Derby County.

United entered the competition at the third round stage, and the win set up a fourth round tie away at Swindon Town.

Ethan Williams scored the winner, seven minutes after coming off the bench, giving the young Red Devils a deserved victory.

Jack Fletcher praised

One of the many top talents on display for Manchester United’s in-form under-18s was young midfielder Jack Fletcher.

Fletcher was particularly bright early in the game and was praised by MUTV’s Ben Thornley, who lauded his ‘elegant’ touches.

United signed the 16-year-old from Manchester City in the summer along with his twin brother Tyler Fletcher, who did not play in last night’s game.

Jack Fletcher’s performance prompted a comparison from one watching teammate, striker Gabriele Biancheri, who likened him to another former City prospect.

Biancheri wrote on Fletcher’s Instagram page, ‘Cole Palmer in disguise?’, likening him to the United supporting player who made the £40 million switch to Chelsea in the summer.

Strong start for Jack Fletcher

Since his summer move from Manchester City’s academy, Jack Fletcher has made a strong early impression at Carrington.

He has played academy games in the league, Youth Cup, and UEFA Youth League, and has already caught Erik ten Hag‘s eye, being called to train with the first team already, amid claims he will be fast-tracked.

The 2023 calendar year is now over for the under-18s, and Fletcher will be looking to pick up in 2024 where he left off.
