Manchester United have an exciting new talent making his way through the club’s academy.
The academy at Manchester United has delivered a number of truly special players for the first team. More than 250 have gone onto make their debuts, and there have been some absolute world beaters among them.
One who hopes to follow is 14-year-old wonderkid JJ Gabriel, who has been fast-tracked into the under-18s side already.
On April 5, JJ Gabriel became the youngest player to feature for United’s under-18s, and then became the youngest goalscorer – netting two goals in a very one-sided 13-1 victory over Leeds.
Marcus Rashford encourages JJ Gabriel
JJ Gabriel scored two goals in open play after coming on as a substitute in a demolition of Leeds at Carrington, showcasing the depth of talent in United’s academy.
United had not even utilized prolific forwards Chido Obi or Gabriele Biancheri, it was Victor Musa who got the start up front and he scored six goals.
By time JJ Gabriel came on, the game was over as a contest, and his quick footwork and strong balance allowed him to cause problems for a well-beaten Leeds defence and score twice.
The teenage prospect sent a message out on Instagram following the win, celebrating his achievement, writing: “U18 debut at U14 ☑️ 2 goals on debut ☑️”.
Gabriel’s message was well received, with Marcus Rashford among the names to reach out to him in his replies.
Rashford wrote a simple two-word message, commenting: “Future star,” on Gabriel’s post.
Former United defensive prospect Teden Mengi added: “Well done bro, keep pushing,” while on loan forward Ethan Wheatley wrote: “Big time.”

Marcus Rashford help for JJ Gabriel
Marcus Rashford already has a connection with JJ Gabriel, established during the time the first team forward was training away from Ruben Amorim’s group, before he headed out on loan.
After Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa was sealed, JJ Gabriel sent him a message on social media.
The teenager wrote: “All the best, thanks for taking pens with me other day.”
This showed how Rashford was still looking to pass down his experience to a younger generation who clearly look up to him, even when his United tenure was falling apart.
Gabriel did not get a chance to take a penalty on his under-18s debut, he did not need a spot-kick to make an impact, but there is plenty of time ahead to put Rashford’s tips to good use.
