After the penalty shootout misery of Monday night’s FA Youth Cup loss, Manchester United’s U18 side were back in action on Saturday.
The impressive academy side left the disappointment in the past as they turned up to Carrington in a mood for a thrashing.
This is exactly what happened with Manchester United beating rivals Leeds United 13-1 on Saturday morning in one of the most dominant games we have ever seen at any level.
Victor Musa was the star of the show as he scored six goals in the first-half alone. Jim Thwaites also starred with a hat-trick of his own in the game.
James Bailey and Dan Armer grabbed one each before 14-year-old wing wizard JJ Gabriel put his own name up in lights with two late goals on his debut.
Follow along below for all the latest from Saturday’s game.
Manchester United (Musa x6, Thwaites x3, Bailey, Armer, Gabriel x2) 13-1 Leeds United

James Bailey with a thunderous strike into the top corner puts United 10-0 up. Absolutely ruthless from United, how high can they go…

An extraordinary first-half sees United head into the break 2 goals off levelling City’s goal difference, of which there was an 11-goal difference before the game. Monday’s Youth Cup heartbreak will be a distant memory right now. Have to feel for Leeds’ kids after that, as they cannot handle this United team, and the two sides look worlds apart.
Hopefully, we get to see Gabriel’s debut now as this is the perfect platform for him to shine.

Second later, Thwaites has his hat-trick and Ibragimov has a hat-trick of assists. This is the U18s of 2024. Wow.
Goal: Thwaites
Assist: Ibragimov

Thwaites grabs his second of the game in the 39th minute with a tap in after Ibragimov’s pressure led to an error from the goalkeeper.

Leeds were through one on one, or so they thought until Overy cam across with a huge tackle on the edge of the box.

Jim Thwaites ends Musa’s streak as he puts a free kick into the top corner from a couple of yards outside of the box. 6-0 inside 30 minutes.
Goal: Thwaites

Musa again. This time, it’s an absolute rocket into the top corner from outside the box after a solo dribble from the 18-year-old. Have to wonder if he will be catching the eye of Ruben Amorim after this. 5 in 25 minutes.
Goal: Musa
Assist: Ibragimov

Musa again! The Spaniard has got four in 16 minutes… sensational stuff from the often-overlooked striker and this one was the pick of the bunch so far.
Goal: Musa
Assist: Lusale

Musa gets his hat-trick after a quick counter. He was in the right place to score a rebound after Lusale’s shot was saved, with credit to Dan Armer, who played a brilliant cross-field ball to Lusale. 13 minutes gone, game over.

2-0 inside 8 minutes, with Victor Musa scoring his second with excellent composure. Brilliant pass from Jaydan Ngwashi for the assist as he played a ball through the entire Leeds side for Musa to run on to.
Assist: Ngwashi

In a replica of a chance he had on Monday, Baumann cuts inside on his left foot but sees his shot ricochet off the post from outside the box.

United come close, winning the ball from Leeds’ defence with Musa setting up Ibragimov but his shot is blocked by what appeared to be a hand. No penalty.

[Link]Manchester United name young XI
A sign that the season is closing in on its end is that Lawrence has named a young side against Leeds, with Biancheri and Scanlon both absent along with Munro and some other U18 regulars.
This, however, does give some exciting talents a chance in U18 football with Jaydan Ngwashi starting and 14-year-old JJ Gabriel on the bench.
