10 years ago this July, Manchester United paid £27 million to Southampton to sign talented a young left-back.
Luke Shaw remains a Manchester United regular almost a full decade on, and plans may be in place for his long-term successor.
Manchester United acted early this past summer, swooping in the summer to sign talented young English left-back Harry Amass.
United signed Amass, 16, from Watford, beating competition from Chelsea to the England youth international.

How Harry Amass is faring
Harry Amass has settled in well since joining Manchester United’s academy, playing a regular role for the under-18s, who are enjoying a successful season.
The under-18s have won 10 out of 10 league matches this season, and Amass has started in six of them. He has scored once goal and provided one assist.
Amass has also picked up minutes in the under-19s UEFA Youth League, and was named in the starting line-up for Manchester United’s opening game of the 2023/24 FA Youth Cup, a win over Derby County.
The teenager has impressed with his calm performances in possession and solidity at the back. He is part of a team which has conceded only six league goals all season.
Including the FA Youth Cup, Amass’ last four under-18 games for Manchester United have all seen the team collect clean sheets.
Amass is also an England youth international, most recently with three caps for the under-17s.
What is next for Harry Amass
Manchester United staff won’t want Amass to think he has ‘made it’ already and will be looking for the young talent to prove his consistency in the second half of the season.
There is silverware to aim for, with United in with a strong chance of winning the under-18s title thanks to this season’s perfect record through the first 10 games.
And then there is the FA Youth Cup, with United set to face Swindon Town in the fourth round and try to follow in the footsteps of the 2022 winners.
If he can continue to demonstrate progress, regardless of the trophy outcomes, then Amass could get the chance to train with the first team, and show how he compares to Luke Shaw.
