Manchester United are close to wrapping up a deal to sign 16-year-old striker prospect Gabriele Biancheri.

Biancheri’s move to Manchester United from Cardiff City was first reported by The Athletic at the end of January.

He was said to have already undergone a medical at Carrington. Last week, journalist Fabrizio Romano wrote on Twitter that the deal was just subject to FIFA approval.

Biancheri is expected to go into United’s under-18s next season, and turns 17 in September.

Biancheri confirms exit

Biancheri has confirmed his exit from Cardiff City via Instagram. He did not name his next destination.

He wrote: “After more than 9 years my time with Cardiff has come to an end. I’d like to thank all of my coaches for helping me become the player and person I am today and to all my teammates. I’ll forever be thankful for the opportunity I’ve had at this club💙.”

The young striker scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists for Cardiff’s under-16s last season, Wales Online reported.

He is a Wales youth international, making three appearances for his country’s under-17s.

This season he has featured for Cardiff’s under-18s, trained with the under-21s, and played in the FA Youth Cup.

When his move to United is approved, he will join a talented academy group which has seen players quickly elevated to the first team if they can prove themselves, with both Alejandro Garnacho, 18, and Kobbie Mainoo, 17, featuring for the first team at the weekend.
