ManchsterUnited’s U21 side came out on top against Oldham in a 5-0 thumping on Wednesday night.

It was the finale of Travis Binnion’s National League Cup campaign and it saw the Red Devils completely destroy the opposition.

Despite a closely contested first-half, Manchester United reached new levels in the second-half when they scored five goals in one half.

The academy side can thank Jack Moorhouse for his brilliance with a goal and an assist. While Chido Obi also got on the scoresheet, in United’s 5-0 win over Oldham.

Meanwhile Sam Mather, Malachi Sharpe and Victor Musa all scored. However, for us the game had one obvious MVP.

Sekou Kone has best game yet vs Oldham

Against Oldham, the easy player to pick out was Obi, as the 17-year-old terrorised Oldham and should really have grabbed more than his one goal.

But having watched the 90 minutes, the game’s standout player was actually midfielder Sekou Kone.

Kone has been developing week on week after his £1m move from FC Guidars last summer, and this was his best display yet.

After injuries and time to settle have seen him have a slow campaign, it finally looks like he is kicking on, and leaving many in awe while doing so.

The Malian talent was dominant in midfield as he won plenty of tackles and duels while he also had some moments of brilliance on the ball.

Kone’s dribbling is a real asset which helps him evade the press and it almost got him his first assist, as he carried the ball excellently to the edge of the area on a solo run before slipping Moorhouse through, with Obi converting the rebound.

Sekou Kone is ready for Manchester United

Kone looked a few levels above the majority of players on the pitch on Wednesday night, and it became clear he is destined to reach levels beyond this.

Kone made it look easy as he breezed past Oldham players and picked up some strong passes forward.

The 18-year-old ran the show in midfield and with some physical and conditioning improvements along with slight improvements technically, Kone will be first-team ready for Amorim, but he should be promoted to the first-team for training.

Kone was in senior training under Erik ten Hag, and this could soon be the case under Amorim as he possesses the qualities the Portuguese coach loves.

Amorim is already planning Kone’s debut, but if he continues to improve every week then it could soon become unavoidable to promote him as his ability is beyond that of facing National League sides.

We are excited to see Kone’s development in the coming weeks and months, but right now it looks like United signed an absolute gem.
