Manchester United’s list of exciting young players was made one name longer on Friday night during the Under 21s game against Derby.

In a season which has seen players like Kobbie Mainoo become bonafide first-team players at Manchester United, hopes will be high throughout the academy of replicating this.

The likes of Harry Amass and Ethan Williams have been seriously impressive for the academy despite not being viewed as first-team ready just yet.

Now, a new star has staked his claim with an impressive U21 debut which saw him score from defensive midfield.

Here’s what happened on Friday night as United’s U21s took on Derby.

Zach Baumann scores on U21 debut for Manchester United

On Friday night as the U21 side took on Derby County, it was a 17-year-old debutant who grabbed United’s first goal to make it 1-1 at the time. He expertly slotted the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box for an excellent goal.

It was Zach Baumann who scored the Red’s first goal in the game, although this wasn’t enough to see his side win the game as Derby then went on to win 4-2, although Derby benefitted from a series of goalkeeping errors.

But for Baumann, it was a great evening individually as he showed that he is capable of making the step up to the U21 level.

Baumann was joined on the United side of the scoresheet by fellow young talent Williams who has been immense at all youth levels this season as he grabbed his 21st goal contribution of the season.

Who is Manchester United wonderkid Zach Baumann?

Zach Baumann is a 17-year-old Manchester United midfielder currently working his way through the academy set-up at Carrington.

This season he’s been something of a regular for the U18 side, with 12 appearances and a goal to show for his efforts in central midfield – according to Transfermarkt.

Upon making his first step up into the U21 side he has now shown himself ready for the higher level and will likely be used again going forward.
