Ahead of moving to Old Trafford last summer from Real Madrid, Varane was already one of the most decorated players in football history.

Alongside winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the 92-time France international has won four Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles.

Varane has won 20 trophies trophies during his glittering career, and when he’s featured in a final – his team is usually the side that ends up lifting the trophy.

Out of the 16 finals Varane has participated in, the former Los Blancos ace has won an impressive 14 of them.

Varane’s two final defeats came against Real Madrid’s fierce rivals Atletico Madrid in the 2014 Spanish Super Cup and the 2018 UEFA Super Cup.

The Frenchman has also missed three finals due to injury and his presence and leadership was clearly missed by Real Madrid and France in those finals.

France lost the 2016 European Championship final in extra time to Portugal, but Varane missed the entire tournament with a torn muscle.

Los Blancos beat Atletico in the 2016 Champions League final without Varane, but Diego Simeone’s side won the 2013 Copa del Rey final when Real were missing Varane who was out with a ruptured meniscus.

Polish referee Szymon Marciniak will be in charge of today’s World Cup final.

The 41-year-old was in charge when Atletico Madrid beat Varane’s Real Madrid 4-2 after extra time in the 2018 UEFA Super Cup.

But Marciniak refereed France’s 2-1 win against Denmark in Qatar.
