Marcus Rashford sealed a perfect start for England in the Three Lions’ opening group game at World Cup 2022.

Rashford was introduced as a 70th minute substitute with England 4-1 up. He scored in the 71st minute to make it 5-1.

The Manchester United star took his goal well, after being put through on goal by Harry Kane for his second assist of the match.

Rashford twisted inside the penalty area, bearing down on goal, before placing his shot across the goalkeeper into the bottom corner.

Jack Grealish added a late goal to make it 6-1 to England, and the game finished 6-2.

Rashford seals England win v Iran

England had sauntered into a lead against Iran, going in 3-0 up at half-time. Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling were on the scoresheet.

Two Manchester United stars played a part, with Luke Shaw assisting Bellingham’s goal and Maguire setting up Saka.

Maguire also hit the bar and should have had a penalty as England dominated the first half.

Bukayo Saka added a fourth goal in the second half before Mehdi Taremi pulled one back for Iran, prior to Rashford coming on as part of a triple change.

Rashford’s goal was his first ever goal at a major tournament for England, having failed to score in appearances at Euro 2016, World Cup 2018 and Euro 2020 in 13 appearances.

Hopefully there are plenty more to come, with this strike continuing his strong form this season so far, with eight goals for United to date, where he is the team’s leading scorer.

Rashford, Maguire and Shaw all did Manchester United proud. The team’s next game is against USA on Friday night.
