Manchester United still keeping track of French midfielder Kouadio Kone

Manchester United are keeping an eye on French midfielder Kouadio Kone, report L’Equipe.

United are one of three teams in for Kone, along with Juventus and Atletico Madrid.

Kone plays for Borussia Moenchengladbach, signing for the German club from Toulouse in 2021.

GFFN reports former Red Devils interim boss Ralf Rangnick has been an admirer of Kone for ‘several years’, and Manchester United have also previously been linked.

United in for midfielder Kouadio Kone

French outlet Footmercato claimed United were interested in central midfielder Kouadio Kone a year ago, before he moved to Borussia Moenchengladbach.

He was regarded as one of the best box to box midfielders in his age group, and at 21, made 25 Bundesliga starts this season.

One of these games saw Kone produce a dominant performance as ‘Gladbach stunned Bayern Munich 5-0. Kone won 10 duels and made six successful dribbles, going up against Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretka.

Kone averages 2.3 tackles per game in the Bundesliga this season and 1.3 interceptions per game, per WhoScored.

This sees him rank join ninth in the Bundesliga for tackles won, per FBRef.

Also known by his middle name ‘Manu’, Kone has Manu Kone on the back of his shirt.

Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said when they signed Kone, via “Kouadio Kone is a really interesting player, who we have been following for some time now for the French youth national teams and his club FC Toulouse.

“He’s a huge talent who has been monitored by top clubs from across Europe.”

Kone has a contract until 2025. He is a France under-21 international who is also eligible to play for Ivory Coast.

United are said to be monitoring Kone rather than preparing an offer, but this could change, with the club looking to change options in midfield and replace Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

Kone is the type of gem who United should be targeting, a young player on the rise, and the 21-year-old would be considerable cheaper than Aurelien Tchouameni, who now seems out of Manchester United’s reach, with Real Madrid pushing the bidding up towards £70 million, report The Mirror. Kone could cost less than half that price.
