Manchester United interested in signing Chicago Fire striker Jhon Duran

Manchester United are interested in signing Colombia striker Jhon Duran from Chicago Fire, according to The Sun.

There is no denying that Erik ten Hag will be keen to bolster his striking options in the coming transfer windows.

Regardless of Cristiano Ronaldo’s future and Anthony Martial’s fitness concerns, the Red Devils still haven’t replaced Edinson Cavani who left the club as a free agent at the end of June.

The twenty-time league champions need more firepower in our ranks, and bolstering our forward line will likely be a priority come the summer.

The big question will be whether the former Ajax manager wants to splash the cash on a household name, or if he sees potential in nurturing a young starlet to superstar status.

The Sun reports that United are ready to go toe-to-toe with Liverpool to sign the 18-year-old Duran from Chicago Fire.

The two-time Colombia international is reportedly valued at £10m and the same report states that ‘Ten Hag’s associates have been in contact’ with Duran’s representatives, who recently travelled to England.

Duran contributed eight goals and five assists in 27 appearances during the 2022 MLS campaign.

Fire recently sold keeper Gabriel Slonina, also 18, to Chelsea for around the £10m mark and the American side would expect to recoup a similar fee for another of their young prodigies.

If Ten Hag was to sanction United’s pursuit of Duran, then it would be highly likely that another striker would also be signed alongside the raw teenager.

With Ronaldo potentially departing as soon as the January transfer window, Ten Hag would no doubt want to try and replace the wealth of experience and quality lost in Cavani and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Duran is certainly a name to keep an eye on, but it would be a huge surprise if he’s the first striker Ten Hag signs as manager of Manchester United.
