At 15 years and 181 days, England Under-17 international Nwaneri was handed his professional debut for Arsenal by Mikel Arteta against the Bees.

Having come on at the Brentford Community Stadium with three injury time minutes remaining, he eclipsed Harvey Elliott’s record of 16 years, and 30 days to place himself in the Premier League history books.

The Red Devils are not the only Premier League heavyweight side reportedly interested in signing the midfielder, Manchester City and Liverpool are also credited with an interest.

With United amongst the chasing pack, Arsenal’s reason to hand the wonderkid his senior debut may have been an attempt to show the youngster that staying at the Emirates Stadium is the best move for his career.

The three-time England U17 international has four goals, and four assists, in nine Arsenal U18 games.

Compared in The Times article to Manchester United’s all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney, Nwaneri’s fast-track to the Arsenal first team at such a young age shows the burgeoning and raw talent he possesses.

The attacking midfielder laid on an assist in his Premier League 2 debut earlier this month in an age group where there could be players up to six years older than him.

Erik ten Hag showed throughout his time at Ajax that he is more than willing to place his trust in youth.

The Dutchman has already handed Charlie McNeill his senior Manchester United debut and several of the Reds’ talented academy prospects continue to train with the senior side at Carrington.

Nwaneri may decide that staying at Arsenal represents the best move to aid his development right now, but it’s refreshing to see Manchester United linked with the young starlet.
