Manchester United look set to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer, given David de Gea’s now likely departure from the club.

Erik ten Hag’s search for a ball playing keeper has seen United linked heavily with Diogo Costa and most recently Andre Onana.

The Inter Milan keeper shined in his sides Champions League final loss with his sweeping and box dominance highlighted.

This performance has drove calls for him to be United’s number one next season.

Onana would come as yet another player who previously worked under Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag has previously hailed the keeper, saying: “We’ve all seen that he is a masterful goalkeeper.”

United in pole position for Onana

It appears that United are now closing in on a £43m plus deal for the Cameroonian keeper.

This after Chelsea reportedly dropped out of the race, leaving United as the sole contenders.

It is also thought that £43m is on the lower end of what Inter expect, with that fee needed to ‘get them to the table‘.

An agreement for anywhere south of £50m would represent great value for United who would be receiving one of the worlds best goalkeepers.

Onana is the ideal goalkeeper for Erik ten Hag

Onana is the polar opposite of current keeper de Gea. The 27-year-old is incredible on the ball, a far cry from the Spaniard currently between the sticks.

Onana is also great aerially, dominant in the air and a top shot stopper, he is the ideal fit for goalkeeper.

Also given his age, he’s in his prime and ready to win now, opposed to Costa who might need a season or two to reach his best.

Signing Onana would transform United, allowing ten Hag to implement his philosophy to the highest extent.
