Manchester United are reported to be eyeing promising Preston North End youngster Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile.
The Mirror report the Red Devils are among a group of clubs paying close attention to Rodriguez-Gentile after his impressive performances early this seaosn.
The 16-year-old striker is reported to have struck 18 goals in 10 games this season for Preston’s under-18s side.
He is claimed to have pre-agreed a scholarship deal with Preston from next summer. However, Manchester United’s interest could potentially turn the player’s head.
Who is Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile
Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile was born in Brazil, but is also eligible to play international football for either Argentina or Spain. Currently he has not been capped at youth level by any country.
He told Preston’s website that he moved to England three years ago and lauded The Lilywhites as an ‘amazing club’.
His standout performance this season came in the FA Youth Cup when Preston beat Rotherham 6-1, with Rodriguez-Gentile scoring five goals.
Rodriguez-Gentile had previously played for Preston’sunder-19 side at just 15.
Earlier this month Preston boss Ryan Lowe told the club channels that he plans for the prospect to join first team training.
He said: “He’s a good little player, we’ve got to be careful he’s only 16 but he will come up and train with us soon. He’s an exciting prospect, we will obviously keep tabs on him but we can’t let ourselves get too carried away with him yet.”
Preston face Gillingham in the FA Youth Cup fourth round in January, while Manchester United take on Stoke City. There is a chance the Red Devils’ defending champions come up against Rodriguez-Gentile in 2023.
