What Man Utd have now told Kobbie Mainoo as another inquiry made in ‘last few weeks’

As the January transfer window approaches, the future of Kobbie Mainoo is increasingly becoming a topic of debate, and Man Utd have just sent their most recent message to the player.

Despite Ruben Amorim not playing Kobbie Mainoo as much as Man Utd fans would have liked, it’s not a judgement on the player’s ability.

It can be proved from the fact that Mainoo is earning interest from some of the elite European clubs despite being out of favour at Old Trafford.

After receiving the latest inquiry for his signature in the ‘last few weeks’ from a familiar club, Man Utd have sent him another message.

Kobbie Mainoo receives Lazio interest, Man Utd’s stance

The Serie A is increasingly becoming the go-to venue for Man Utd players who fail to thrive at the club.

Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund are the most recent, but the path has been successfully walked in the past by the likes of Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, and more.

As per Ben Jacobs, Lazio have now inquired about the prospect of loaning Mainoo either as a plain deal or with an option to buy.

Kobbie Mainoo wants to leave United in January – latest

Jacobs said: “Lazio was another club that made an inquiry in the last few weeks again about a straight loan or a loan with a buy option.”

However, United have told Mainoo in no uncertain terms that he’s valued as a squad member, and any potential departure will be sanctioned only if an arrival is finalised.

Jacobs added: “Manchester United are not really engaging with suitors because they’re telling Mainoo that their preference is for him to stay unless they find another midfielder. The feeling is that he’s needed as a squad player for Manchester United to make a push for some kind of European football.”

Crucial two months for Mainoo

Amorim has come under scrutiny for not playing Mainoo enough, but his argument has also held weight until this point.

After the elimination from the Carabao Cup, United play just one game per week, and up until the Spurs game, there were no injury worries.

There was no point changing a winning team just for the sake of it, especially because they were learning to play together in a new system.

However, when this international break is over, the fixture list will become more hectic due to the festive period, and with injuries already to Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko, rotation will become necessary.

The next two months will be make-or-break for Mainoo’s prospects, because if he still doesn’t get a game, then he won’t just itch for a loan move, he might just want a permanent move.

That’s a situation Amorim must avoid at all costs by giving Mainoo the minutes he has earned through his training performances. The clock is ticking.
