Manchester United are closing in on the ambitious signing of LOSC Lille centre-back Leny Yoro this summer.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United set about the targets for the summer with a new centre-back high on the list of targets.

Matthijs De Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite and Leny Yoro have been the targets heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but it now appears the Red Devils are closing in on the signing of the French teenager.

According to a report from David Ornstein in The Athletic, Yoro is flying to Manchester to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms to join the Red Devils.

Yoro already has the backing of former United academy graduate

Whilst a move for the Lille defender may well be a risk, due to the Frenchman being just 18 years of age, this could turn out to be one of the most exciting signings the club have made in a long time.

Former United academy graduate Angel Gomes, who departed Old Trafford to join French side Lille back in 2020, has previously been full of praise for the Frenchman.

Speaking to TNT Sport, Gomes was asked about just how good the teenager is and the Englishman did not hold back in his admiration of his teammate.

“Leny, from when he first came (into the team), I knew immediately that he was going to go to the top,” Gomes said.

“When I was at Manchester United as a 16-year-old, I understood what it was like to be around first-team players. But (Yoro) has a different type of temperament. His temperament isn’t normal or the same as a 16-year-old or 17-year-old coming in.

“It’s almost like he’s a senior pro, the way he trained and the way he conducted himself and everything. It was easy to see how things could only progress for him.”

United about to pull off the deal of the summer with Yoro

With Raphael Varane departing the club this summer, a new centre-back was always going to be needed and Ineos have seemingly pulled a rabbit out of the hat.

Yoro was outstanding during his 32 appearances for Lille in Ligue 1 last season and it appears Ten Hag will get his top target.

The Red Devils look set to beat competition from Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain to sign the Frenchman and this could prove to be a superb bit of business.
