Viktor Gyokeres feels disrespected by Sporting CP, Man Utd target losing patience with situation

Manchester United are in the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres as the striker attempts to force his way out of Sporting CP this summer.

After making one signing so far this summer, it is clear that Manchester United are focusing on attacking reinforcements.

It has already been announced that Matheus Cunha has joined United from Wolves following an impressive season in the Premier League, after scoring 15 goals in the top-flight and helping his team avoid relegation.

Ruben Amorim must add goals to his side after watching his side struggle in front of goal since he became United’s head coach in November.

United’s goalscoring problems undoubtedly contributed to a poor domestic campaign, with the Red Devils finishing the season 15th in the league table.

Reports suggest Amorim could look to his former club, Sporting CP, to bolster his United attack ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Viktor Gyokeres disrespected by Sporting CP

United are currently being heavily linked with two more additions in attack as Amorim looks to make big changes after a turbulent campaign.

They include Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

Gyokeres’ frustrations with Sporting CP have already been documented, but it appears the situation has intensified, with the Sweden international considering taking a break from his holiday to take action.

He has a €100m (£84m) release clause in his current deal at Sporting, but there is a gentleman’s agreement from the club since the start of the season over a reduced asking price.

The Swede was allegedly promised that he could leave Lisbon this summer for €60m (£51m), plus €10m (£8m) in add-ons, which would reduce the overall transfer fee to £59m.

Now, in a new report from Portuguese outlet Record (cited by Sport Witness), it is suggested that Gyokeres is willing to go above and beyond to secure his exit away from Sporting this summer.

Gyokeres has reportedly suggested he may not return for pre-season training, amid his unhappiness with the situation. He is said to be willing to interrupt his holiday to speak publicly about the situation.

Which other clubs are linked with Gyokeres

After an incredible season for Sporting, scoring 54 goals and registering 13 assists, Gyokeres made a name for himself in Europe.

The 27-year-old is now one of the most sought-after players in the transfer window, teeing himself up for the biggest move of the summer.

However, United are not the only club keen on Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has also attracted interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal in recent months, but it remains to be seen if the Gunners will prioritise a move for Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

The other clubs include Juventus and Al-Hilal.
