PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy seems resigned to losing Cody Gakpo who is the subject of interest from Manchester United.

Having opted against pursuing PSV’s star man in the summer, following the big money arrival of Antony from his former club Ajax, Erik ten Hag is looking to bring the in-form Netherlands star to Old Trafford next month.

According to The Telegraph, the Red Devils are planning a £43.1m bid for the 23-year-old.

Gakpo, who scored three goals in Qatar at his maiden World Cup, has been lined up as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo who mutually agreed to have his contract terminated with immediate effect last month, following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Having expressed his disappointment in failing to secure a summer move to the Theatre of Dreams, Gakpo is in the form of his life.

PSV’s number 11, who was also the subject of interest from Southampton and Leeds United during the summer, has 13 goals and 17 assists from 24 games for the Dutch giants this season.

The 14-time Netherlands international also has five goals and one assist from his last eight international appearances.

PSV’s CEO Marcel Brands has made it clear that it will require a club-record sale for Gakpo to depart the Philips Stadion.

Hirving Lozano is PSV’s record sale and Napoli paid £36m to sign the pacey Mexican in 2019.

United’s former striker van Nistelrooy discussed Gakpo’s future after a friendly against Serie A side Sassuolo.

Van Nistelrooy told Voetbal International: “There comes a time when you can’t say no anymore.”

Judging by van Nistelrooy’s latest comments on Gakpo, it seems the former Red Devils marksman is resigned to losing his star man.

PSV’s first competitive game back after the World Cup isn’t until 7 January, and there is every chance that Gakpo could have played his last game for the club.

But with other top clubs interested in securing his services, Ten Hag will hope the twenty-time league champions win the race to sign the talented Dutch superstar.
