A little momentum is gathering behind the Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United train, after weeks of failing to find a solution.

Paris Saint-Germain dynamo Manuel Ugarte emerged as Manchester United’s top midfield target during the Copa America.

United were expected to try and rapidly conclude the deal to sign Manuel Ugarte after landing Leny Yoro, and even agreed personal terms with the Uruguayan, much to the excitement of supporters.

Little progress has been made since, with United stepping back to consider other targets, but admiration for Ugarte has remained, and the midfielder is determined to move to United.

Manuel Ugarte latest

Paris Saint-Germain have excluded Manuel Ugarte from their main training group as they prepare for Ligue 1 to kick off.

Ugarte’s agent Jorge Mendes has now flown to England, with discussions over a move on the agenda.

Now, reports from Uruguayan outlet Ovacion indicates the deal is advancing.

Their dispatch reads: “The negotiations are not new, but the truth is that in the last few hours there has been a lot of progress, since according to what Ovación was able to find out from sources close to the footballer, in the next few hours his contract to play for one of the Premier League’s big clubs could be finalised.

“What changed? The parties came closer from an economic point of view and that could resolve the differences so that Ugarte becomes a new player of the Red Devils.

“Over the weekend they got closer. The French club lowered their expectations and the player himself put a lot of himself into being able to get to Manchester United.”

Busy business for Manchester United

Manchester United are in the process of wrapping up deals for Matthijs de Ligt and Nousair Mazraoui, which were agreed over the weekend.

Both players have passed medicals and will be available to face Fulham in Manchester United’s opening Premier League fixture.

It’s unlikely Ugarte would be ready to feature against Fulham if a deal is done, but there is a real chance United can secure the deal in advance of this, and add a key player to the midfield for the season ahead.

United have also signed Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, but there have so far been no reinforcements in midifeld, and Ugarte would be the first.
