It is not yet clear who the long-term Manchester United manager will be.

But the club is always looking out for the best young talent, even if they are a long way from being ready for the first team.

They have been linked with teenager Rory Wilson so it is worth looking at what we know about him so far…

The report which says United want the teenage striker has come from the Scottish Daily Express.

Rangers Academy goal machine Wilson has a Scotland U17 call-up alongside three of his Gers teammates in October 2021.

It was an impressive achievement for Wilson, given that he was still only 15 at the time but not a particularly surprising one given his remarkable form.

He now has five goals from five games at that level and he is showing he can cut the mustard and shine playing up an age group.

There seems likely to be competition for such a talented young player, who has told Rangers he will not commit his future.

The situation could be similar to Billy Gilmour’s, who departed Rangers as a teenager to join Chelsea and is now a senior Scotland international.

It would be a coup to beat Liverpool and City to the young striker and United’s lack of certainty over the long-term manager should not be an issue with Wilson’s progression to the first team one for the future.

Both Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag have a reputation for promoting young players from the academy, which would mean the pathway remains open if one of them takes the reins at Old Trafford.
