Manchester United are set to move quickly to complete the deal for Mason Mount, following an agreement with Chelsea being reached.

A deal was reached on Thursday evening, with David Ornstein breaking the story on The Athletic. He reported that United and Chelsea found an agreement in a deal worth up to £60million (£55m plus £5m in “difficult add-ons).

Manchester United have now set a date for the Englishman’s medical with a confirmation likely to follow shortly after.

Matt Law, a journalist from the Daily Telegraph has reported on Twitter that Monday is when the 24-year-old will complete his medical.

Personal terms already widely considered to be sorted with a reported contract worth £250,000 per week rising to a possible £300,000 based on his performances.

It is seemingly just a matter of time until Mason Mount will be in the red of United, and will likely now be at Carrington on Monday.

Mount sale is a bad look for Chelsea

While on the face of it, Chelsea will likely not be unhappy to receive £55m for Mount, a player with only one year left on his contract.

However if you look beyond this, the Blues have just sold an academy star who has been their best player across the last few years. It is a bad look for the club, who have been haunted by sales in the past, with Mohammed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne coming to mind.

Mount was in high demand, with Liverpool and Arsenal both interested but the Cobham graduate only wanted United, similar to how Erik ten Hag only wanted him to fill out his midfield.

Within the deal is the extra £5m in add-ons which are only paid reportedly if silverware is won. In which case Mount would have undoubtedly been successful for United who will be delighted to sign the ‘mad player’ as Rio Ferdinand once described him.

Chelsea could be in danger of selling their soul with Todd Boehly attempting to build a ‘galactico’ style team.
