‘Unbelievable’ teen Man United are keen on wins Young Player of Year award

St Patrick’s Manchester United linked starlet Sam Curtis has capped a superb breakthrough year by winning the PFA Ireland’s Young Player of the Year award.

Fighting off competition from Shelbourne’s Jack Moylan and Bohemians’ James Clarke, per The Irish Sun, Curtis’ status as arguably the most exciting young talent in the country is now, perhaps, official.

And amid interest from a who’s who of Premier League powerhouses, Manchester United among them, the St Pats starlet will have to make room in his suitcase for Ireland’s Young Player of the Year award should he cross the sea in the New Year.

According to TEAMtalk, United and arch rivals Man City have ‘made contact’ regarding Curtis. There is also interest from (deep breath) Everton, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United, Hull City, and a Middlesbrough side under the stewardship of former Red Devils hero Michael Carrick.

Curtis, at the age of just 18, is already a regular for the Republic of Ireland at Under 21 level. TEAMtalk believe that a first ever senior call up is not far away either.

Also included in the league’s Team of the Year for 2023, Curtis continues to go from strength to strength since becoming the youngest player in St Pat’s history when he made his debut at 15. A record which has since been taken by another Old Trafford-linked whizzkid, striker Mason Melia.

It is not just Curtis’ natural ability which catches the eye, meanwhile, but also his determination, work-rate and mentality off the pitch.

‘He’s unbelievable’

“For a young kid, I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s unbelievable,” St Patrick’s team-mate Tom Grivosti tells The Sun. “Even in his general play, he is getting better all the time.

“As the older one I’ve the responsibility to try to help them through the game. But sometimes Sam doesn’t need that anyway. He’s mature beyond his years.

“Sam is brilliant and you know what you are going to get from him. There isn’t much help that he needs, really.”
