The back-up goalkeeper situation at Old Trafford seems to be on the verge of being rectified this week. The race for Dean Henderson is heating up and Manchester United have reportedly identified his replacement.

Yesterday the story of Altay Bayindir being close to joining Manchester United broke.

The Athletic had reported that United were running pre-medical tests on the Turkish goalkeeper before potentially triggering his release clause.

The 25-year-old travelled to Greece to undergo these tests which were for United to gauge the status of his back injury.

United are said to have a rough deal in place for the Fenerbahce keeper, which is worth £4.25million.

The last few days have made it clear United want a new second choice keeper with Benfica’s Odysseas Vlachodimos also linked.

Reading between the lines, this likely signals the end for Dean Henderson at the club.

Dean Henderson is wanted by two clubs

The likely casualty of Bayindir’s arrival at the club, would be 26-year-old Henderson who is clearly not rated by Erik ten Hag.

According to Sky Sports News, Henderson is now said to have a move to both Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest as potential destinations.

Palace are thought to be the likeliest move for Henderson, with them pushing the hardest for the signing of the English goalkeeper.

However dialogue is still open with Forest over a loan move which would have an obligation to buy included.

This giving Henderson options in which he moves to, and it is likely a move accelerates now, with United signing a replacement in advance.

What does a Henderson sale mean for United?

Selling Henderson is something we imagine Ten Hag has been desperate to do all summer.

It is a deal which probably brings in at least £20m, which would be a huge boost for United’s FFP record.

Currently unable to buy until they sell, Henderson would represent pure profit in FFP regulations which might enable further recruitment for United.

This could even be the sale needed to see Sofyan Amrabat arrive at Old Trafford, so this sale could be huge.
