The lowdown about Manchester United transfer target Davide Frattesi

Manchester United are now being linked with a transfer swoop for Sassuolo central midfielder Davide Frattesi.

The reports stem from Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

They claim that United have sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old in action this season.

Who is Manchester United target Davide Frattesi?

The 23-year-old joined Sassoulo from Roma in 2017 for a reported £4.5 million.

He went out on loan three times – to Ascoli, Empoli and Monza – before breaking into the Sassuolo first team.

Frattesi has 47 Sassuolo appearances to his name, and this season, he has two goals from seven Serie A outings.

Frattesi also broke into the Italy squad this year and has three caps to his name, but will not be going to the World Cup this summer as the European Champions did not qualify.

ScoutedFTBL wrote about the midfielder earlier this year, saying: “English pundits would love to commentate on Frattesi’s matches. He brings pace, power, passion and desire to the game, and has been a consistent performer that rarely puts in bad shift.

“He’s a big-bodied midfielder that throws his weight around, bruises the opposition and seeks to domi­nate within his sphere of influence. 

“He looks like a night­mare to play against as he constantly snaps at the heels of his direct opponent in attempts to win back possession.

“And he is quick too, regularly demonstrating great recov­ery speed that makes him a very valuable asset when de­fending in transition – an important virtue in a ball-domi­nant team that wants to defend high up the pitch.”

And the player himself has said he dreams of playing in the Premier League: “I’d like that, it’s a league I can see myself in. But it’s a step to take in two or three years, after I’ve established myself. But it’s a league that fascinates me a lot, also because it doesn’t have too many tactics, where you go back and forth for ninety minutes and I like that idea.

“Then Gianluca Scamacca, who was in Holland, told me that abroad they have a different way of approaching football. It would be nice to get to know a new culture.”

Tottenham, Brighton and West Ham also reportedly want to sign Frattesi, with Sassuolo valuing the midfielder at £30 million, and Roma entitled to a 30 per cent cut of any future fee.
