Ten Hag wants to bring Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips to Manchester United

Manchester United are interested in raiding rivals Manchester City with a 2024 move to sign out-of-favour midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

We are expecting more changes to United’s midfield in 2024.

Donny van de Beek will surely move on and there are questions over the long-term future of Casemiro.

Loanee Sofyan Amrabat may be on his way back to Fiorentina if he doesn’t show more consistently and United will be assessing midfield targets.

Manchester United keen on Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips

The Sun now report that United are watching the situation of Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips very closely.

It’s suggested that United are making Phillips a top target – but for the summer window rather than in January.

United seemingly want to wait until the end of the season, at which point the situations of Van de Beek, Casemiro and Amrabat should be much clearer or even resolved.

Phillips has struggled for first-team football at City ever since signing from Leeds United for £45million in 2022.

Phillips may seek to leave City in January as he looks to push for first-team minutes and secure a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024.

That could see him leave City before United can even make a move, but he is one to keep an eye on amid claims Erik ten Hag thinks he is a ‘perfect’ fit at Old Trafford.

United could finally land Phillips

Whilst many players have turned out for both City and United, it’s not often that we see direct transfers between the two clubs.

Would Pep Guardiola’s men really allow Phillips to join United?

Stranger things have happened, but it still feels like a long shot given the rivalry between the two clubs.

United have liked Phillips for a while though with The MEN reporting in 2022 that United wanted to lure him from Leeds United to Old Trafford.

Similar stumbling blocks felt apparent then too; United’s rivalry with Leeds is a fierce one and made any transfer seem tricky.

This rumour may raise a few eyebrows but Marcus Rashford would seemingly be a fan of any move, having previously hailed Phillips as ‘immense’.

The pair have played together regularly for England and Rashford knows exactly what Phillips can provide when given a chance.

We would still be surprised to see Phillips arrive at United but you just never know, with a move across Manchester potentially appealing to the 28-year-old.
