Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag may make a very difficult decision in 2024 amid internal doubts over midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

United simply had to bring in another combative midfielder over the summer with cover and competition needed for Casemiro.

Erik ten Hag decided to go with a player he knows very well, reuniting with Sofyan Amrabat.

The pair worked together at Utrecht in the Netherlands and United struck a loan deal for the Fiorentina ace on deadline day.

Fans hoped to see the Amrabat who took the World Cup by storm just last year as Morocco reached the semi-finals in Qatar.

That hasn’t quite been the case and whilst Amrabat hasn’t been terrible by any stretch of the imagination, there are allegedly some doubts inside Old Trafford.

The Guardian report that ‘doubts have been raised internally’ about Amrabat’s performances and his slow start to life in England.

Amrabat seemingly hasn’t convinced people inside United just yet and it’s claimed that United are now looking at other defensive midfield targets.

No names are mentioned but it seems that United are already looking into the possibility of sending Amrabat back to Fiorentina in 2024.

There is still time for Amrabat to turn things around; we can’t imagine him leaving in January, nor do we think United will splash out on another midfielder.

Kobbie Mainoo’s emergence this season certainly eases the need for another midfield option, but Amrabat may just not be around for the long-term.

Ten Hag may have to make difficult call on Amrabat

Ten Hag put his faith in Amrabat.

This wasn’t a club signing, this was Ten Hag going back to signing a player he worked with previously, just like Andre Onana, Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

Ten Hag is clearly a big fan of Amrabat and has been for a long time, but it may just be that he isn’t cut out for United.

That would stint for Amrabat, especially having built up his reputation so much a year ago, but also for Ten Hag, who may have to say goodbye to one of his transfer picks.

Amrabat may yet recapture the form which made him a sensation at the World Cup, but with a £21.4million option to buy in his loan deal, United have to be ruthless – and plans to target alternatives are allegedly already underway.
