Manchester United allowed Teden Mengi to leave the club this summer and he is now attracting major interest at Luton Town.

United decided to offload a host of young talents over the summer.

Nathan Bishop, Matej Kovar, Zidane Iqbal, Bjorn Hardley, Noam Emeran, Marc Jurado and Charlie Savage were all moved out of Old Trafford on permanent deals.

A mixture of ruthlessness and aiding the club’s Financial Fair Play situation resulted in United letting youngsters go and one of them is now attracting interest.

Defender Teden Mengi was allowed to leave United ahead of the summer transfer deadline, completing a move to Luton Town.

It’s unclear just how much United received for Mengi but Luton are reaping the rewards of the move.

Mengi has been hailed as ‘immense’ and ‘dominant’ by Luton boss Rob Edwards having made a big impact at Kenilworth Road.

The 21-year-old has already featured 14 times in the Premier League this season and is putting previous injury problems behind him.

Mengi is impressing so much that Crystal Palace and Fulham are already interested in signing Mengi, according to Fabrizio Romano.

A January deal seems unlikely but Mengi could be on the move at the end of the season with interest mounting after a strong start at Luton.

United will surely have Mengi sell-on clause

United staff will always want the best for Mengi after nearly 15 years in the Old Trafford ranks.

There may be some regret at letting Mengi leave the club, especially after so many defensive absences this season.

Mengi has always had big potential and maybe just needed a permanent move away – and subsequent first-team opportunities – to unlock his talent.

We are now seeing that at Luton and a big move to another Premier League club could still land some cash for United down the line.

United surely placed a decent sell-on clause into Mengi’s transfer given his potential, and will be watching the situation regarding his future very closely.
