South American club expecting Man United to come in for the ‘next Lisandro Martinez’

Argentinian side Boca Juniors are expecting Manchester United to make an offer for Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino, according to reports.

A new centre-back will be high on the list of priorities for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United as the club prepares for a defensive clearout in the summer, according to ESPN.

Perhaps the only defender who is safe at this moment in time is Lisandro Martinez, who recently made his long-awaited return following a long absence due to injury against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been linked with Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino with United said to like what the Argentine has shown this season.

Boca expecting an offer for the ‘next Lisandro Martinez’

According to a report from El Crack Deportivo, the Argentinian giants are expecting an offer from Anselmino as it seems like talks have progressed.

The Red Devils, according to the report, view Anselmino as the next Lisandro Martinez. Another player who they also view as a similar type of player to Martinez is Equi Fernandez, who is being watched by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Anselmino is 18 years old and is just getting started with his career, having made just five appearances for Boca Juniors’ first team so far.

It would certainly be a switch-up from the Red Devils if they were to make a move for a highly-rated teenage sensation and bring him into the first team.

Perhaps the signings of Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri was the last time this happened but the Red Devils didn’t stick either player in the starting lineup straight away.

Anselmino’s potential

The reality is though that the Argentinian side rates Anselmino so highly that they are expecting a host of other big-name clubs to come in for the 18-year-old.

It’s said that other clubs, such as Benfica and AC Milan, are also competing for the defender. United, however, has the money and indeed the real Martinez to try and win the battle for the teenage sensation.

Bringing academy players from different clubs into the first team and hoping they flourish is a huge risk but is one the Red Devils have to start doing more of. Julian Alvarez was brought into the Premier League and excelled at a young age for Manchester City, why can’t Anselmino do the same?
