Sofyan Amrabat latest stance on Manchester United return, and his new back-up plan

Former Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat is still keen to return to the club.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are set for a busy summer transfer window as the club have already confirmed the £34 million capture of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.

Defensive additions are also reportedly key priorities for the Red Devils with Leny Yoro and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs De Ligt of interest to those at Old Trafford.

A defensive midfielder is reportedly another priority with Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte reportedly a key target. The future of another defensive midfielder in Sofyan Amrabat has yet to be decided.

Amrabat ‘eager’ to continue at Manchester United

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Moroccan midfielder Amrabat is keen on remaining at Old Trafford.

After joining the Red Devils back in 2023 on deadline day, Fiorentina midfielder Amrabat had a mixed season at Old Trafford.

He made 21 Premier League appearances for United but started just ten of these games for the Red Devils.

It was last season’s FA Cup final against Manchester City which proved to be the peak of Amrabat’s time in the North West as he was one of a plethora of top performers.

The report states that he is eager to remain at Old Trafford but would be open to a Premier League move elsewhere, if the Red Devils don’t make his loan deal permanent.

Amrabat is currently not training with his current club Fiorentina as he bids to force through a move to England.

Amrabat must not be first choice

With the potential signing of Ugarte from the French giants PSG, United would only need Amrabat as a back up.

Casemiro’s future at the club remains unclear, while there could be movement on potential exits for Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay.

This may open up a scenario where Amrabat is needed, but his entire 2023/24 season was unconvincing in totality.

Apart from the victory at Wembley, Amrabat’s performances for the Red Devils were mixed, and it could be a mistake to spend the money to sign the Moroccan.
