Manchester United are now emerging as Paris Saint-Germain’s main competition for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

United fans are expecting a big summer transfer window and, to be quite frank, it will be needed.

Sunday’s defeat at Manchester City again exposed United’s problems and Sir Jim Ratcliffe may need to bankroll some big signings.

Another striker will be vital with Rasmus Hojlund needing support in the final third.

The Dane is a top talent but a more experienced forward could be a game-changer for United – and a big name is wanted.

Manchester United want Victor Osimhen

The Independent now report that United are looking into a deal for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

It’s suggested that United and Paris Saint-Germain are emerging as the top contenders for Osimhen’s signature this summer.

PSG are set to lose Kylian Mbappe and they may well believe that a big-money move for Osimhen can bring some star power in attack.

Osimhen is understood to have a €110million (£94million) release clause in his Napoli deal and could leave this summer.

That would make Osimhen United’s record signing, so this would be a real statement of intent for the Ineos era.

Arsenal and Chelsea are both understood to be interested too but United could make a big push to beat the competition.

How many goals has Osimhen scored for Napoli?

The 25-year-old showed potential at Lille, scoring 18 goals in 38 appearances – and that record may well be part of PSG’s interest.

Napoli pounced in 2020 and Osimhen has responded with a stunning goal record of 72 goals in 123 appearances.

That kind of record is hugely impressive and would give United a real proven goalscorer alongside Hojlund.

United also seem to like the Italian market right now; Hojlund, Andre Onana and Sofyan Amrabat all came in from Italian clubs last summer.

Osimhen would be an enormous investment for United, and these rumours will excite fans – even if some will be sceptical of the timing, just a day after losing to City.
