Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge of Manchester United taught him a lot of things about this team but one problem he has definitely inherited from Erik ten Hag.
A lack of goalscoring has plagued United for the last three years and regardless of how impressive Ruben Amorim has been with Viktor Gyokeres, Old Trafford is different gravy.
Marcus Rashford made a good start to his spell under the new manager by opening the scoring but he’s hardly the first choice for that post.
In fact, Amorim spotted a problem with Rashford as a striker right away after the game finished. On the other hand, natural strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee haven’t set the stage alight, far from it.
As such, it looks like the Man Utd manager is making a proven striker commodity one of his first priorities in the market and has already zeroed in on a name.

Harry Kane’s rival Omar Marmoush
The Bundesliga scoring chart is dominated by the usual suspect, Harry Kane, with 14 goals so far having him ahead of the pack.
However, the only other person to join him in double figures is not a name many would have known, at least outside Germany, before this season.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush has set the Bundesliga alight, rivaling Harry Kane in the scoring charts with 11 league goals to his name.
Sky Germany report that Marmoush is one of four players on Amorim’s shortlist to strengthen his striker ranks, alongside fellow Bundesliga player Victor Boniface, former Bundesliga player Randal Kolo Muani, and Victor Osimhen.
Marmoush’s contract runs till 2027 and the report states it could take a fee in the region of €50-60 million to prise him away from Frankfurt.
Considering United will need reinforcements at left wing-back as well as central midfield in the summer, it remains to be seen if that fee is palatable, especially after spending £42.5 million on Joshua Zirkzee in the summer.
Omar Marmoush’s suitability at Man Utd
14 goals and 10 assists in 17 appearances in all competitions are undoubtedly figures that pop straight off the bat when evaluating a striker.
For starters, this is his breakout season since before this, 12 goals in a league season was his career-high which he got last season playing his first season for Frankfurt.
| Competition | Games | Goals | Assists |
| Bundesliga | 11 | 11 | 7 |
| Europa League | 4 | 2 | 1 |
| DFB Pokal | 2 | 1 | 2 |
He came on a free transfer from Wolfsburg when Frankfurt lost Kolo Muani to PSG so either way, Frankfurt are going to be extremely rich in the summer due to how smart they were.
The quality that could be making Marmoush enticing for interested parties, including United, is his all-around game beyond just goalscoring.
It is what Zirkzee was brought for, knowing goalscoring was not his biggest strength but nobody predicted it would be this big a weakness.
Marmoush has combined goalscoring with playmaking, with his dribbling and the ability to break the lines with progressive passing standing out beyond his finishing.
At 25, it is worth taking a punt on him despite this being an outlier season so far because, on the plus side, this could be a natural progression from an encouraging first season.
Hojlund remains a project and Zirkzee is arguably not even a natural striker. A 25-year-old coming off his best season, showing a multi-faceted skill set is a sound buy for that price.
