Manchester United linked Joey Veerman has earned the praise of his club boss PSV Eindhoven coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Last summer Erik ten Hag looked to his knowledge of the Eredivisie to help him find players suitable to strengthen his Manchester United side, and it has largely worked.
Earlier this year The Sun reported Ten Hag had given his scouts a dossier of players in the Netherlands he wanted to watch, with PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman featuring prominently on the list.
The Manchester Evening News reported last week that Ten Hag is determined to sign a midfielder this summer, ideally one who is younger than Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.
Joey Veerman praised
Joey Veerman’s strong season for PSV Eindhoven will surely have impressed Manchester United’s scouts.
The 24-year-old has scored nine goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions, an impressive 20 goal contributions from a box to box midfield role.
He is expected to feature in the Netherlands international squad in June and he has been praised by United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has helped oversee his improvement at PSV.
Van Nistelrooy told Voetbal International: “Joey is taking very good steps. This is important for the development of a midfielder from a top club with aspirations for the Dutch national team.
“It’s part of it and he has turned the switch, both physically and in the mindset.”
This is Veerman’s best season of his career so far and there will be clubs casting their eyes over him with a view to the summer, beyond just United.
He was recently named in the EA Sports Netherlands Team of the Season. This is Veerman’s first full season at PSV following a January 2022 move from Heerenveen. He is under contract until 2026.
While reportedly of interest to United, it is unclear where he might rank in comparison to other targets in terms of priority. In terms of price, he is not expected to cost an excessive amount and may provide fair value.
