Manchester United have been linked with more signings before the transfer window shuts.

After welcoming four new players to the squad, it remains to be seen if Manchester United will make extra additions to enhance Ruben Amorim’s chances of succeeding this season.

Matheus Cunha was the first summer signing, arriving from Wolves after establishing himself as one of the most lethal attackers in the Premier League. The same can be said for Bryan Mbeumo, who joined a month later from Brentford.

United also signed a striker after completing a deal to bring Benjamin Sesko to Old Trafford.

Additionally, Diego Leon joined United from Cerro Porteno to push Patrick Dorgu for a place at left wing-back.

Many United fans would like to see one or two more signings made before the transfer deadline, with several links to midfielders and goalkeepers.

United will struggle to make additional signings unless they sell some of their unwanted players like Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.

Ruben Amorim ‘gives up’ on Morten Hjulmand transfer

Many reports state that United have turned their attention towards signing a new midfielder.

That would mean a new midfielder takes priority over a goalkeeper, with Andre Onana set to remain first choice for a third consecutive campaign.

United looked at a deal for Brighton ace Carlos Baleba, but the Seagulls have stood firm on keeping him at the club. That has reportedly led to the Red Devils seeking alternative options in the market.

Previous reports indicated that Amorim is a huge admirer of Hjulmand having made him captain of Sporting CP during his time as manager.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano stressed that Sporting CP don’t want to sell Hjulmand or other top players after losing Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal earlier this summer.

A fresh report from Correio da Manha claims Amorim approached the Denmark international, but Sporting CP have other plans as club president Frederico Varandas wants to reward the player with a new contract with an improved salary.

Sporting CP’s stance has led to Amorim giving up on his former player, so United will need to go back to the drawing board in search of a midfielder who will improve the team this season.

What Hjulmand said when Amorim left Sporting CP

Amorim left Sporting CP during last season, after previously winning the Portuguese league title on two occasions.

That meant Sporting CP were dealt a challenge last season to win the league without Amorim in the dugout. That task was made earlier by the fact they started the season so strongly under the current United head coach.

Speaking to the media after Amorim walked away from Sporting CP, Hjulmand said (via GOAL): “I see it as a positive challenge to try to be champions without Ruben, which is the main objective of this season. Life goes on and we want to show that we no longer need him. It was difficult for me to know that he is leaving. I was sad. That he was going to leave me too. But in football, opportunities like these happen to players and coaches. It’s part of football and I hope Ruben is proud to receive an offer of this kind.”

He added: “Ruben was one of the reasons why I came to Sporting. When you are coached by him, you get a clear idea of the way he sees football and how he sees us being part of the team. It’s a very important image for the player, to know what his role is, what he can contribute to the team. It was very important when I joined Sporting. The way he sees the players, how he manages the team on and off the field… It’s something I’ve never seen in my career. Manchester United will be in good hands with Ruben.”
