Romano suggests Brazilian star won’t be joining Man Utd any time soon

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Juventus defender Bremer but he is now on the verge of extending his stay in Italy.

United will be looking at potential centre back signings for 2024.

Harry Maguire has salvaged his United career but Victor Lindelof’s future is unclear as the club weigh up activating a one-year option on his contract.

Raphael Varane’s future is unclear and we can’t see Jonny Evans still being at Old Trafford into next season.

All of that means that United will have centre back targets in mind, but one of them seemingly won’t be heading to Old Trafford…

Manchester United have targeted Juventus defender Bremer

Reports from Italy back in November suggested that United were looking into a move for Juventus defender Bremer.

It was suggested that United had joined Chelsea and Tottenham in targeting Bremer ahead of the January window.

The 26-year-old has impressed in Italian football ever since joining Torino from Atletico Mineiro back in 2018.

The winner of Serie A’s Best Defender award in 2022, Bremer moved to Torino’s rivals Juventus that summer and has continued to shine.

A quick and physical defender, Bremer has been in outstanding form this season and United may well have fancied pairing him with Lisandro Martinez.

Juventus poised to secure Bremer future

Sadly, Bremer looks set to extend his stay in Turin.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Bremer is poised to sign a new long-term contract with Juventus.

Romano claims that it’s a ‘done deal’ with a pay rise now in place for Bremer to extend his stay until 2029.

That will surely take Bremer off the market for a long time unless a release clause is part of the agreement.

Romano suggest that official confirmation will be coming in the next few days with Juventus no doubt delighted to get the deal over the line.

That leaves United to look elsewhere for a new defensive addition, with targets surely being identified ahead of January or next summer.

Reports from the Manchester Evening News even as far back as September indicated that United were already ‘looking to recruit an athletic defender’ for the summer of 2024.

Bremer certainly ticks all the right boxes in that regard and has coped well with the step up in expectation from Torino to Juventus.

A move for the Brazilian would have excited us but it looks like he won’t be arriving at Old Trafford any time soon with his new deal set to be fnalised.
