Manchester United are still working on a deal to try and sign Mason Mount from Chelsea and have let him know.

Fabrizio Romano reports Manchester United have urged Mason Mount to wait, with the Red Devils still keen to conclude negotiations with Chelsea.

Mount emerged as a top target for Erik ten Hag in late May, and The Telegraph claim personal terms have already been agreed.

So far there has been no agreement over a fee, and while this drags on, Manchester United are keen for Mount to know he is still a wanted man.

Manchester United want Mason Mount

Fabrizio Romano told YouTube that Manchester United have been in touch with Mason Mount to reassure him over the transfer move.

He explains: “They know Mason is prepared to say yes. They sent positive messages to Mason Mount, saying it’s time to wait now, the negotiation Manchester United and Chelsea is not easy.

“Chelsea wants around 80 million Euros for Mason Mount, we know Manchester United are not prepared to pay this for a boy who is out of contract next summer.

“There is this sort of strategy game, Manchester United are very clear with the player, telling him they will work on that deal in the next weeks.”

Many factors are at play here, with United looking to spend a limited figure on Mount, with funds required for other positions, including striker and goalkeeper.

And then there is the simple point that United should not overpay for a player whose contract expires next year, while he is also keen move on and leave Chelsea.

Mount is currently on holiday, with a late season injury ruling him out of the upcoming England fixtures.

So he can wait and recharge while the clubs negotiate a fee, and hopefully his move to Manchester United will be worked out sometime later this June.

It should be in his interests for the deal to be concluded in time for him to join United for pre-season. While United will be relaxed at this early stage, expect the club to try and turn the screw on Chelsea over the next fortnight. It appears there is a confidence it will get done.
