Romano claims Manchester United target will now stay in Germany

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong looks set to sign a new contract after Manchester United interest over the summer.

The influence of Dutch football at United has been strong ever since Erik ten Hag’s arrival.

Andre Onana, Lisandro Martinez, Sofyan Amrabat and Antony all worked under Ten Hag in the Netherlands whilst Mason Mount caught his eye at Vitesse Arnhem.

We also saw Netherlands international Wout Weghorst arrive in January and another Dutch star has been on Ten Hag’s radar.

United were very keen on signing Jeremie Frimpong over the summer but any deal for the former Celtic star now looks unlikely…

Jeremie Frimpong set to stay at Bayer Leverkusen

Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT back in May that United had held ‘positive’ talks with Frimpong’s representatives.

Frimpong was really keen on the idea of moving to United having previously been in the Manchester City youth ranks.

The Manchester Evening News recently noted that United ‘considered approaches’ for both Frimpong and Leverkusen teammate Edmond Tapsoba, but no deals were done.

It now looks like Frimpong is committing his future to Leverkusen with a new deal now imminent.

Romano claims that Frimpong is ‘set to accept’ a new long-term contract with Leverkusen and the deal will run until 2028.

Romano adds that the deal is now just a ‘matter of hours’ away from being announced with Frimpong deciding to stay in the Bundesliga.

Maybe there will be a release clause in the deal and United can revisit a move down the line, but for now, it looks like this is one to forget about.

United seem to be settling at right back

It now looks like United are ready to stick with the current options at right back.

Diogo Dalot signed a new five-year contract in May and talks are underway over a new deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

That’s an interesting approach but one which we would have to question.

Dalot and Wan-Bissaka have been at United for a while now and yet the debate rages on over who should be the first-choice right back.

If neither have really managed to nail down the position by now, then maybe United need better.

Frimpong is better as a wing back right now but his speed and attacking ability would have been fascinating to see in this United side.

United instead look like settling with Dalot and Wan-Bissaka, with Frimpong poised to forget about a move to Old Trafford.
