Manchester United are expecting Fred to leave soon and Rasmus Hojlund could even take his squad number at Old Trafford.

The time has come for some outgoings at Manchester United.

United have made three big signings with Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund arriving.

The likes of Zidane Iqbal, Ethan Laird, Charlie Savage, Alex Telles, Anthony Elanga and Nathan Bishop have moved on but more could go.

There are rumours about Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay, Dean Henderson is still expected to go and Eric Bailly, Donny van de Beek and Brandon Williams are expected to go.

Then there is Fred.

Fred sale expected to advance

Fabrizio Romano reports that United now think Fred will be leaving the club very soon.

It’s suggested that a sale will advance in the coming days and that sources ‘guarantee’ that Fred will 100% leave this summer.

The Brazilian just isn’t part of Erik ten Hag’s plans and is now poised to leave United after five years at the club.

Fred is thought to have interest elsewhere with Romano claiming in July that teams in Saudi Arabia are keen to land him.

Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri has dodged a move for Fred whilst Galatasaray haven’t stumped up the cash for a deal.

United will hope to get Fred move on quickly in order to go for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, but it’s unclear just where he will be going.

Rasmus Hojlund could take Fred’s shirt number

One other interesting note from Romano is that he believes Fred is poised to lose his squad number.

Romano was responding to rumours that United hadn’t given new signing Hojlund a shirt number due to imminent transfer movement.

The Italian simply posted the number 17 alongside the Danish flag, hinting that this will be Hojlund’s new number.

That’s the number Hojlund wore at Atalanta, so it makes sense that he will take the same number at United.

This will also mean that Fred is either losing his squad number or leaving the club imminently.

Premier League start is fast approaching and if Fred hasn’t gone, then United will be ready to simply give his number to Hojlund – and leave the Brazilian staring at a departure.
