Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is wanted by Sevilla amid hopes of a new contract to stay at Old Trafford.

United sold a number of young players over the summer in order to raise some funds for the first team.

The likes of Nathan Bishop, Ethan Laird and Zidane Iqbal all moved on from United as they seek first-team action elsewhere.

There were also rumours surrounding a departure for Hannibal Mejbri, who spent last season on loan at Birmingham City.

Reports from Ettachkila over in Tunisia suggested that Hannibal may be tempted to leave United on a permanent basis in a deal worth up to £17million.

That didn’t happen though and Hannibal staying at Old Trafford is now paying dividends…

Hannibal in line for new Manchester United contract

Hannibal made a real impact off the bench against Brighton and Hove Albion with his goal proving to be one of few bright spots.

The Tunisia international started away at Burnley last weekend too and turned in an impressive performance.

Erik ten Hag praised Hannibal for a ‘perfect job’ against the Clarets and it looks like United really want to secure his future.

Reports from the Manchester Evening News earlier this week suggested that United are keen to open discussions over a new contract.

The 20-year-old is out of contract next summer but United do have an option to extend his deal – and would seemingly prefer the solidity of a long-term deal.

Sevilla keen on Hannibal

There is interest from elsewhere though as Fabrizio Romano claims that Sevilla are very interested.

Romano claims that Sevilla wanted to sign Hannibal in July and are still tracking the United midfielder ahead of a possible move.

Romano notes that United are planning to offer Hannibal a new deal but the midfielder is focused on playing as many games as possible.

That means a new deal at United isn’t absolutely nailed on; he will have to see a pathway to consistent first-team minutes before committing to a new contract.

Sevilla will be keeping very close tabs on the situation and could offer Hannibal a chance to shine in Spain come the January transfer window, or even next summer.
