Rio Ferdinand opens up on Jude Bellingham’s Man Utd snub

Rio Ferdinand claims that Jude Bellingham rejected a move to Manchester United over first-team assurances.

It’s easy to think about players United could have signed in recent years.

Moises Caicedo was a target before his Brighton and Hove Albion move with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitting that United backed away.

Solskjaer also added that United missed out on Erling Haaland and Declan Rice, leaving United to think about that ‘could have been’ XI.

Then we come to Jude Bellingham.

Rio Ferdinand comments on Jude Bellingham snubbing Manchester United

Solskjaer claimed that United ‘badly’ wanted to sign Bellingham from Birmingham City back in 2020.

Bellingham picked a move to Borussia Dortmund, becoming a star in Germany before then signing for Real Madrid.

The 20-year-old is taking the world by storm at Real and Rio Ferdinand has now opened up on his United snub.

Speaking on FIVE, Ferdinand claimed that a ‘very good source’ has told him that Bellingham’s move to United broke down over first-team assurances.

Bellingham wanted to play in the first team at 16 but United seemingly didn’t agree, leaving the midfielder to join Dortmund instead.

Ferdinand now feels that Bellingham is proving United wrong with his rise to super-stardom at Real simply ‘unbelievable’.

“You know what I’ve heard it was? I heard that he wanted some assurances about being a first-team player and United weren’t willing to give him those assurances – that’s what I heard from a very good source, he wasn’t given assurances of being around the first team.”

“He’s said ‘you know what, I know my worth, I know my value, and if you don’t value me the way I see myself, I’m going to have to jog on and go to another club’. He’s gone and done that, and he’s turned around and gone ‘I told you guys, you didn’t believe me did you?’ And then he’s gone to Real Madrid, and he’s tearing down Real Madrid! He’s tearing down the Bernabeu, they’ve just rebuilt it and he’s tearing it down! It’s unbelievable,” he added.

Bellingham looks set to make United pay for a long, long time

Bellingham won the Kopa Trophy on Monday, the award given to the best Under-21 player over the last 12 months.

Who knows, maybe Bellingham will be in contention for the Ballon d’Or this time next year.

The England midfielder has already hit 13 goals this season – two more than United have managed in 10 Premier League games.

Bellingham looks set to become one of the best players in the world and United missing out on him will probably feel worse and worse over the next decade.

Let’s just hope that, if another Bellingham-like talent emerges in the coming years, United learn some lessons and manage to get a deal done.
