Manchester United’s transfer business is taking shape in the guise of a double move for Mason Mount and Harry Kane.
The Guardian report manager Erik ten Hag is ‘obsessed’ with the idea of signing Harry Kane this summer and Macnhester United plan to act swiftly.
United want to make a strong early offer to Tottenham to clinch the move for Kane, and prevent the saga dragging on all summer.
The Times has reported Tottenham could seek as much as £100 million for Harry Kane this summer.
Mason Mount interest
Mason Mount was loosely linked with Manchester United back in March, although we didn’t take it seriously at the time.
The volume of reports today backing United to move for Mount now strongly indicates this a move the club really could pursue.
The Guardian claim Mount could cost around £60 million – far cheaper than the price The Mail says Chelsea ideally want, £85 million.
Both Mount and Kane have just one year left on their contracts, giving United an edge. However, buying from a Premier League rival is not easy.
Double move impact
It is essential that Manchester United move early this summer to set the tone for a successful window and a move for Kane and Mount would address two issues.
Firstly, United need a striker, and secondly, another creative midfielder is required to share the burden on Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.
Mount, 24, also lowers the age profile of Manchester United’s midfield. A defensive midfielder is still required too, to provide cover for Casemiro.
United would ideally then want a back-up striker, additional centre-back, and a goalkeeper. So getting two early deals done, provides plenty of time for other business.
